This report produced in partnership with Peabody provides fresh analysis on the post-lockdown employment challenges facing London’s working and unemployed social housing residents. It identifies policy solutions and things Peabody can do to effectively support their residents.

The report found that, among Peabody tenants, one in four (25%) experienced a change in employment status in the past year. Alongside this, almost half (45%) of working residents reported that their pay was under the London Living Wage of £10.85 per hour. The data indicates that this employment instability, combined with the lack of well-paid work, compromises people’s ability to pay for essentials.

The report identifies some key things that would benefit low-income Londoners:

  • More emergency fuel funding for low-income Londoners in the short term
  • Further skills training
  • Childcare provision
  • A stable jobs market in the long term
